The “It” Playroom
The playroom is the nook of the home that the little ones love to occupy. Replete with toys, it often lags behind the house’s most design-forward spaces. Interior design firm CetraRuddy, headed by famed interior designer Nancy Ruddy, however, is on a mission to upend the unimaginative aesthetics of the playroom and give it a haute makeover.
Ruddy is known for her “It” creations – think celeb-filled buildings like 443 Greenwich in New York. Her artistry has swept the playrooms of her projects, where private kids’ corners afford great explorations. Thanks to Ruddy, kids can play in expansive rooms that evoke a slew of peculiar themes – from African safari to beach escapades to the Manhattan skyline.
“Fifteen years ago, playrooms were simple spaces with linoleum floors and a few toys,” says Ruddy. “Today, children are very sophisticated, even under the age of four. They are filled with wonder and should have the chance to be inspired by unique and creative environments.”
